How to Solve One-Step Equations
Practice Problems
1) Solve for x.
x - 23 = 8
Answer
Add both sides of the equation by 23.

2) Solve for n.
n + 2 = 9
Answer
Subtract both sides of the equation by 2.

3) Solve for k.
9k = - 27
Answer
Divide both sides by 9.

4) Solve for a.
{\Large{a \over 2}} = 6
Answer
Multiply both sides by 2.

5) Solve for y.
y + {\large{1 \over 4}} = {\large{1 \over 2}}
Answer
Subtract both sides by \large{1 \over 4}.

6) Solve for m.
0.25\,m = 2
Answer
Divide both sides of the equation by 0.25.

7) Solve for d.
{\Large{2 \over 3}}d = 10
Answer
Multiply both sides of the equation by the reciprocal of the coefficient. The coefficient is \large{{2 \over 3}}, therefore the reciprocal is \large{{3 \over 2}}.

8) Solve for r.
{\Large{r \over {0.5}}} = 30
Answer
